After a few years, most Christians in America seem to become inward focused. They become uncomfortable around people who aren’t believers. They want to insulate and protect themselves and their family from the world. In fact, 80% of all Christians believe the church only exists to serve them. This is something that bugs the crud out of me. It may even be a “natural” response to things, but according to God’s word it isn’t what He wants!
The Bible says we are to be imitators of God, like little kids who imitate their parents (Eph 5:1). That means we are to be like Jesus! Are you trying to be like him? And by that I mean the REAL Jesus… not some sappy 60’s flower child running around yelling “Make Love, not war!” Jesus wasn’t a wuss. He was a man’s man, very strong. He was also “FRIEND OF SINNERS.” He said he came for the sick, not the righteous. Check out Luke 5:31.
If we are trying to insulate ourselves from the world, we are not being who Jesus calls us to be. We have to be in the world, but not OF the world. That means we live like Jesus did, in and around the not-yet believers. That’s what we are to be all about. That’s what Fellowship of San Marcos is trying to be all about. Keep up the good work, FOSM!
