Essential Ingredients of a Successful Team Pt 1: Intro

I want to spend a few posts writing about what it takes to build a successful organization. Today I attended the first Spur* Leaders luncheon (spurleadership.org). Several area business leaders and church leaders attended. We talked about these kind of things. It ‘spurred’ me to want to share some of what I know with you.

I have a friend, Larry Mayo, who has helped me see many things about organizations. Larry is the winningest coach in Texas high school soccer history. He’s not really a ‘soccer’ coach so to speak but a team builder. He believes that if you build a great team, you will win. His philosophy proved true as he built the Granbury High School soccer team into an unstoppable force.

Larry believes that the fruits of the Spirit found in Galatians 5:22-23 are also the foundational elements of a successful team. It doesn’t matter if it is a little league baseball team or a church, these foundational elements must be true. He also believes they must become a reality in the organization in the order they are listed. In other words, before you can have joy, you must have love. Before peace, you must have joy.

This will be fun to talk about. Please leave your comments.

Real or Fake?

I gave the following message this past Sunday at FOSM. I got the idea from Newspring Church in South Carolina. I didn’t know it when I was preparing, but I have a sense that this series is the most important series we’ve covered at FOSM. This particular message is all about how you look on the outside and what is happening on the inside. If you were not at the service you can listen to it here:
